Peter Schreiner at the Shanghai Future Star Cup U17 and a seminar series in Chengdu

At the beginning of August, Peter Schreiner travelled to China for several events on modern football coaching. At the international Shanghai Future Star Cup U17 and at a three-day seminar series in Chengdu, he shared practical training concepts and fresh ideas on perception, technique and decision-making. The focus was not only on professional exchange with international coaches but also on practical implementation on the pitch.

Talk at the Shanghai Future Star Cup U17

On 8 August, Peter Schreiner was a guest speaker at the Shanghai Future Star Cup U17.

His talk focused on “Perception and scanning in football”. It addressed the question of how players can learn, in a practical way, to perceive their surroundings early, process relevant information more quickly and make better decisions even under time pressure and pressure from opponents.

Eight international U17 teams competed against each other at the high-calibre youth tournament:

Athletic Bilbao, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Arsenal, the Chinese U17 national team, Sporting CP, River Plate, Tottenham Hotspur and Shanghai.

High-calibre speakers and an invitation to the Arsenal Academy

Luke Hopps, Arsenal’s Academy Manager, also gave a talk.

Another speaker was Slawomir Czarniecki, Head of Youth Management, on the topic:

“From talent to international star – the example of Kai Havertz”

Following his talk, Peter Schreiner received an invitation to the Arsenal academy in London.

Luke Hopps, Arsenal’s Academy Manager, was very interested:

“Really interesting presentation and it was good to meet you. I will get back to you when I return to London, and I really think you can help our younger coaches improve their knowledge in this important area.”

International series of talks

The talks held as part of the Shanghai Future Star Cup were broadcast live on television.

Yichen Wu also established the contact with the Shanghai Football Association and is organising the further seminar series in Chengdu.

The participants in the series of talks included coaches and sporting directors from Shanghai and the surrounding area.

Football at international level

Alongside the talks, the tournament also offered top-class youth football.

Among other fixtures, Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s U17s took on the Chinese U17 national team.

All matches of the tournament were broadcast live and reached up to 5,000 viewers.

Practice-oriented training methods

Together with Yichen Wu and Slawomir Czarniecki, Peter Schreiner presented, among other things, T-PRO Connect and reaction gloves, which were used in practice to develop perception and reaction skills.

Practical perception exercises with the T-PRO Connect bibs were also part of the event.

Three-day seminar series in Chengdu

From 9 to 11 August, Peter Schreiner led a three-day seminar series in Chengdu, the so-called “Panda City”.

With around 30 participants, the programme comprised a total of six theory sessions and four practical sessions.

The focus was on practice-oriented training concepts for modern, child-appropriate football coaching:

  1. Two-footed passing and shooting
  2. Training perception in practice
  3. Technical and tactical training in rondos and positional games
  4. 1 v 1 against the goalkeeper
  5. FUNino – more than just a competition format
  6. Small games for child-appropriate football training

The participants were not only able to get to know the content in theory but also to try it out directly in practice.

Practice, exchange and new ideas

The three-day seminar series offered numerous opportunities for professional exchange and for putting modern training methods into practice.

One particular highlight was the game “Command Dribbling”. The winner received a gift from Taktifol.

The trip to China was demanding for Peter Schreiner, but at the same time full of interesting impressions, new contacts and intensive international exchange.

Journey back to Germany

After the events in Shanghai and Chengdu, Peter Schreiner travelled back to Düsseldorf via Helsinki.

The trip to China provided a wealth of international input, practical training ideas and valuable exchange with coaches and decision-makers from international youth football.

An exciting journey with many new contacts and impressions – and a further step in sharing modern training concepts on perception, technique and decision-making internationally.
