From 29 to 31 July 2024, the coaching community met in Würzburg for the International Coaches Congress of the BDFL (German Football Coaches Association). The main theme was "From current trends to practical implementation". Peter Schreiner (Institute for Youth Football) was a speaker on 30 July with two sessions.
Topics:
- Introduction to the practical session: individual training for goalscorers – two-footedness when shooting (Franconia-Saal)
- Practical session: individual training for goalscorers – two-footedness when shooting, with the U17/U19 of Würzburger Kickers as the demo team (Akon Arena)
Introduction: individual training for goalscorers
In the Franconia-Saal, Peter Schreiner introduced his concept. It is based on his finishing matrix, which structures and connects the different areas of finishing training: it is not only about the shot itself, but also about preparing the finish, choosing the foot, precision and different match situations – in eight stages from beginner to goalscorer.
One focus was two-footedness when shooting. This does not mean using both feet equally often, but choosing the technically and tactically right foot in each situation and using it precisely under time and opponent pressure. A player who first has to move the ball onto their "strong" foot in the box often loses exactly the moment that decides whether it's a goal.

Practical session in the Akon Arena with Würzburger Kickers
After moving to the Akon Arena, it was time for the pitch. With the demo team – U17 and U19 players of Würzburger Kickers – Peter Schreiner showed the congress participants in the stand how to put the content into practice in individual training for strikers, with detailed coaching on every finish.
